Shelbourne Derail The Students

Shelbourne gained an element of revenge at Belfield on Friday night, with a 2-1 win over UCD.

When the sides last met in April, College boss Collie O'Neill admitted his side had robbed the three points. UCD were attempting to break the deadlock with crosses in the early stages.

Josh Collins got on the end of one, but he couldn't keep his header down. Adam Evans had Shels best early chance in the 15th minute, but he pulled his effort wide, under little pressure, from the edge of the box.

And College were ahead ninety seconds later, as Kouogun got on the end of a Jason McClelland free-kick. He tapped home from all of five yards, to score his first of the season. McClelland nearly turned scorer ten minutes later, but he couldn't keep his volley down from inside the box.

Both sides hit the post in a sixty second period just before the break. First James English got on the end of a Dylan Grimes cross from the right. The ball came back off the upright, and UCD broke. From a resultant corner, Georgie Kelly headed the ball against the post.

Shels equalised three minutes into the second-period. English headed home Adam Evans's cross to set up an intruiging second forty-five. It was hectic in that period. First Kelly missed a glorious chance for UCD, blazing over from five yards. Then, Evans hit a rooted Niall Corbet, before the ball hit the post and went wide.

Corbet played a far more active part five minutes later, pushing Dylan Kavanagh's shot around his left post. Evans hit the post from close range, as he attempted to poke home. But they were ahead thirty seconds later, as Byrne scrambled the ball home from close range, following a corner. And the visitors held on to take all three points. For UCD, it's surely a fatal blow to their title aspirations.
